Alesse is a birth control pill that contains a combination of progestin and estrogen hormones that prevents the release of an egg from the ovaries, preventing pregnancy. It also changes the mucus in the cervix which makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate and the egg to implant.
Alesse has proven to be highly effective for many women, when used as directed. Unlike other birth control pills, you can continuously take Alesse for as long as desired without any major side effects. If you decide you want to become pregnant, you need to stop taking Alesse and your menstrual cycle will proceed normally, allowing you to become pregnant.
Available in a 28 day and 21 day pack, Alesse can suit any woman's situation.
21 day pack: Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days and then do not take the tablets for 7 days, then start a new pack.
28 day pack: Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days, then take 1 inactive reminder pill daily for 7 days, then start a new pack.
You need to take your tablet at the same time every day, making sure each dose is taken no more than 24 hours after the last dose.
Alesse may also provide extra protection from endometrial and ovarian cancer, may reduce period pain and regulate the menstrual cycle. Women who use Alesse may experience iron-deficiency.
Alesse is not recommended for people with liver disease, has, had or have breast cancer, coronary artery disease, or has had a heart attack, just to name a few. Speak to your Doctor for further information.
We strongly urge you to always consider undertaking a physical examination and consultation with your personal physician before taking prescription medication.
