Yasmin is a form of birth control pill that contains Ethinyl Estradiol and Drospirenone hormones which is proven to be highly effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy. This medication works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries.
Drospirenone is the only form of progestin that is not based on testosterone, unlike all the other progestins found in other birth control pills. Drospirenone is a synthetic hormone that acts more like the progesterones that your body naturally produces during your menstrual cycle. Natural progesterone helps your body get rid of water that estrogen produces in the first half of your menstrual cycle. Synthetic hormones don't help your body get rid of water, hence you may tend put on weight and feel bloated during your menstrual cycle. Taking Yasmin means you are less likely to put on weight and experience bloating due to water retention.

21 day pack: Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days and then do not take the tablets for 7 days, then start a new pack.
28 day pack: Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days, then take 1 inactive reminder pill daily for 7 days, then start a new pack.
You need to take your tablet at the same time every day, making sure each dose is taken no more than 24 hours after the last dose.
Yasmin may also reduce period pain and regulate the menstrual cycle. Women who use Yasmin may experience a raise of potassium levels in your blood.
Yasmin is not recommended for people who has, had or have breast cancer, has reduced kidney or liver function, has eye lesions, is or may be pregnant, has coronary artery disease, is a heavy smoker or has had a heart attack, just to name a few. Speak to your Doctor for further information.
